Well, it has been awhile since I posted. I have traveld across Arizona in a wagon wheel fashion with the hub being Phoenix where my brother lives.
I have had some interesting camps. My favorite being one in the Chiricachua Mts. in south eastern Arizona. This borders right onto New Mexico. Higher elevation so found the coolness I needed and plenty of shade and even a stream that ran right along the camp ground. I met up with some friends in Portal to camp and do some birding. I liked it so much I stayed close to 14 days. Met plenty of other serious birders (unlike me a dabler)and made several friends from Alaska , Yukon, Main, Ca. I hope to visit all someday.
There were numerous of Javalinas, (related to the elephant not the pig) and white tail deer. Lots of interesting birds.
Several of us spent many days on three specific birds. Trying to get good photos. I never did get something I was happy with but here are the three.
Above is the Blue Throated Humming Bird about 5 inches not shy
The Magnificient at 5 1/4 inches. Moved around super fast and usually keep his back to the sun, his coloring is spectacular if I could have only got it.
The painted Red Start. I love the little bit of white under the eye. This little devil only appeared for a very brief time in the mornings always in this tree then dissapeared into thicker conifers and then left after a few days.
